NWEA
This week we will be taking our NWEA tests for Reading. We will be testing for short blocks of time in the morning and afternoon this week. Students have plenty of time to finish so they will not get too overwhelmed. Thank you for having your child here on time in the mornings during this week!
Homework Questions
On Monday, we will be handing out our homework sheet and discussing our expectations. Our biggest goal with homework is for students to read every night for 20 minutes. Please watch for the sheet to come home on Monday's. While discussing the sheet this week, students asked some good questions..."Can I count the reading that my parents read to me?" Our answer to this, is that we really want this to be the students reading time, and only count when your child is reading. If you need to read with them to get them into a routine, than that would be okay, but the goal is for the student to be reading. Another question was, "How do I get on IXL at home?" In the students folders, we placed a label with their username and password. Students can find the Lincoln Symbaloo on the sjschools.com webpage. Then, they can click on IXL and sign in from there. Please let us know if you have questions about this.
Student Council
This week students will learn about student council and how it works at Lincoln School. Starting
in 3rd grade, students can be run for a student council position. Each classroom has two positions
available. Students that are elected will be apart of making decisions for special events at Lincoln,
but also are seen as our leaders in our school. Each teacher will discuss this and answer questions
this week for students. Students will need to decided by Friday, Sept.19th if they want to be apart of
Student Council by filling out a Google Form that will be on our class Google Classroom.
If your student signs up, they may create two posters. One to put in our classroom and one in the hallway, if they would like. Students will prepare a short speech (no more than 2 minutes) about why they want to be a part of the student council. They will have until Thursday, September 25th to prepare their posters to present to their classroom. Speeches will be given on Friday, September 26th. We will be taking two representatives from each of classroom, one boy and one girl. Classes will vote on Friday, September 26th through a Google Form that will be on our Google classroom.
Snacks/Water Bottles
Just a reminder...please send a healthy snack for your child each day, as well as a water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day. Thank you!
